BACKTEST STABILITY ANALYZER

Backtest stability analyzer

Upload MT4 or MT5 reports and test whether performance persists across calendar periods instead of relying on one final balance. Continue from a single-report consistency review to portfolio OOS Stability and stress analysis.

PURPOSE-BUILT ANALYSIS

Check whether the result survives outside its best period

Stable does not mean profitable every month. It means the conclusion is not carried by one short interval, one outsized trade or an allocation selected on the same data used to judge it. Review time distribution first, then reserve independent OOS periods.

01

Monthly and yearly consistency

Compare profitable and losing periods, the worst month, average monthly return and dependence on isolated calendar windows.

02

IS and OOS evidence

Set period boundaries for portfolio research and inspect whether selected strategies and allocations remain viable on data outside the optimization scope.

03

Stress and concentration

Use drawdown, Equity Stress, contribution and exclusion diagnostics to find fragile strategies and portfolio variants.

PORTFOLIO STABILITY EXAMPLE

Five selected strategies tested as one capital process

The public AO Extremum portfolio combines five selected strategies from eleven reports and 3,522 trades. On 200,000 USD shared capital it shows 41.06% return, Profit Factor 2.90 and 2.89% Equity Stress DD. The useful stability question is not which final number is largest, but whether the composition and allocation remain acceptable across independent periods.

01

Start with time distribution inside one report

A high final balance can come from one favorable year, one exceptional month or a small number of large trades. Review the complete calendar, profitable-month share, worst periods, recovery time and concentration before calling the backtest stable. Consistency means the evidence is distributed enough to justify a separate validation test; it does not mean every month must be profitable.

  • Compare months and years rather than one average return.
  • Find the contribution of the best period and largest trades.
  • Check whether the final drawdown was recovered.
02

Keep selection data separate from OOS evidence

When reports are saved in a portfolio folder, define the period used to select strategies and allocations, then reserve independent dates for OOS review. OOS Stability diagnostics compare whether return, stress drawdown and portfolio behavior remain viable outside the optimization scope. Moving the boundary after seeing the result weakens the test.

  • Choose IS and OOS boundaries before ranking candidates.
  • Do not tune the same allocation on the period used for final judgment.
  • Compare backward and forward OOS evidence when coverage permits.
03

Know what the current workflow does not simulate

Backtest Lens analyzes observed trades from uploaded reports, calendar periods, portfolio contribution, correlation and Equity Stress. It does not launch MetaTrader, automate rolling walk-forward runs or provide an equivalent Monte Carlo trade-sequence simulator. Use those as separate robustness stages when they are required by the research process.

  • Treat the analyzer as an evidence and portfolio layer.
  • Run alternative test windows in MetaTrader before importing them.
  • Continue with limited-risk live monitoring after independent validation.
SCOPE AND LIMITS

What this analysis does not prove

  • User-defined OOS analysis is only independent when the period was not used to select or tune the strategy.
  • Uploaded reports inherit the data, spread, commission and execution assumptions of their original tests.
  • Monthly consistency, OOS Stability and Equity Stress reduce uncertainty but cannot guarantee future returns.
HOW IT WORKS

From MetaTrader report to actionable evidence

1Upload and review the first backtest
2Save related reports in one portfolio folder
3Define independent periods and compare OOS Stability
FAQ

Questions before you upload

What does backtest stability mean?

It describes whether performance is distributed across time and remains acceptable outside the period used to select a strategy or allocation.

Does the analyzer run walk-forward tests?

No. Backtest Lens analyzes uploaded reports and user-defined IS/OOS portfolio periods; it does not control the MetaTrader tester or automatically run rolling walk-forward windows.

Does it include Monte Carlo simulation?

No. The current workflow uses observed trades, calendar periods, portfolio Equity Stress and OOS diagnostics rather than simulated trade-sequence distributions.

Can one profitable backtest prove stability?

No. A single report can reveal concentration and weak periods, but stronger evidence requires independent OOS results, alternative configurations or continued live observation.
